    4.1 The Menu Bar:

The items within the menus File and Help act as described in the KDE Standard Menu Help.

    4.1.1 Connection:

Talk to ... Opens a dialog window, in which you can insert a talk address to talk to.
Addressbook ... Opens a dialog window, in which new entries of the addressbook can be inserted, or existing ones can be changed or deleted.
Close all connections Disconnects all existing connections and closes the talk windows. This command has the same result as pressing the Close All button in the main window.
Ping Tests the connection to all ktalk clients of version 0.2.7 or newer. The results are presented in a new window.
File Transfer With this command a file can be transfered between ktalk clients of version 0.2.7 or newer. A new window pops up in which you can enter a file name and a receiver. At the receiver another window pops up, in which he can accept (or reject) the transfer, and possibly change the file name. Instead of using this dialog, you can also drag a local file from a kfm window and drop it onto the ktalk window.
Show messages ... Opens a window that shows all messages about connections and problems.

    4.1.2 Options:

Message Font ... Opens a dialog window to change the font of the message window.
Talk Font ... Opens a dialog window to change the font of the sending window and the talk windows.
Options... Opens a dialog, in which the options of the ktalk client can be specified.

    [The Optionsdialog]

    4.2 The Tool Bar:

The tool bar only consits of the button to close all talk connections.

    4.3 The Sending Window:

The text that you insert into the sending window ("I write here") is sent to every talk partner you are connected to. If no connection exists, no text can be inserted. By pressing the Close all button all connections are closed and all talk windows are closed.

A few special cases of input:
All special characters of the standart ASCII character set (32 - 126) are working. Furthermore the [TAB] key and [CTRL] + [G] (which rings the alarm bell on the computer of every connected talk partner) are working.
You can delete a character with the [BACKSPACE] key, a word with [CTRL] + [W] and the complete line with [CTRL] + [U].
If the length of the line is longer than the width of the window, the line is broken automatically, but the line break is not sent.
You can insert a text out of the X clipboard by pressing the middle mouse button. The text is always inserted at the end.

    4.4 The Status Bar:

The status bar shows the last message about connections and problems. You can open a window with all messages by clicking into it with the left mouse button or choose Connection/Show messages... in the menu.
